In this video tutorial I am going to show you how I created this card using products from Stampin' Up!'s Butterfly Brilliance Promotion.
A card featuring Stampin' Up!'s Butterfly Bijou patterned paper

Hey there friends! It’s butterfly month…or at least that is what I am calling it 😆

I’ve always loved butterflies, and I adore Stampin’ Up!’s new Butterfly Brilliance collection so much, that I decided to create cards with it all month!

The card I created for last week’s exclusive monthly tutorial was the first card I created with the collection. Today’s card is the second.

Once again, for this card, I decided to use my favorite pattern from the Butterfly Bijou patterned paper.

The Butterfly Brilliance Collection consists of the Butterfly Brilliance stamp set and coordinating Brilliant Wings dies along with the stunning Butterfly Bijou 6″ x 6″ designer series paper and the woodgrain specialty paper.

To see all the products included, check out the Butterfly Brilliance Collection flyer here.

Note that this promotion is available March 2 – May 3, 2021. While the stamp set and dies will be available in the 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue, the paper won’t. It’s available only while supplies last.

You can take a closer look at all the items available in this collection either in the flyer or from this blog post.

Stampin’ Up! Canada | You Make Me Happy Card

A card featuring Stampin' Up!'s Butterfly Bijou patterned paper

When I created my first card with the Butterfly Bijou DSP, after cutting all the complete butterflies out from the paper, I was left with the left and right edges of the piece, which had partial butterflies.

Instead of wasting this piece, I decided to cut the edge off, and use it on my card. As you can see from the picture above, I placed it along the left edge of my card, and partially tucked it behind a raised cardstock panel.

Notice how the white cardstock panel looks like it’s been painted with thick white strokes of paint? That my friends, has become my favorite new embossing folder called the Painted Texture embossing folder. It’s the perfect product to give your projects an artistic touch!

So now let’s get into the details of the card…

Stampin’ Up! Canada | You Make Me Happy Dimensions

  • Basic White Thick CS: a 4 ¼” x 11″ piece
  • Basic White Regular CS: a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece, and a scrap piece
  • Basic Black CS: a scrap piece
  • Butterfly Bijou patterned paper: a 6″ x 6″ piece (large butterflies)
  • Blushing Bride ⅜” Metallic ribbon: two 3″ pieces

Stampin’ Up! Canada | You Make Me Happy Instructions

Step 1: Score the 4 ¼” x 11″ piece of Basic White Thick cardstock at 5 ½” and then fold it in half with your bone folder to create your card base.

Step 2: Trim a strip that is ⅞” x 6″ off the right side of the 6″ x 6″ piece of Butterfly Bijou patterned paper using a paper trimmer. Trim the strip down so that it is a ⅞” x 5 ½” strip.

Step 3: Fussy cut the large pink butterfly from the remnant of the 6″ x 6″ piece of Butterfly Bijou patterned paper using paper snips.

Step 4: Dry emboss the 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of Basic White cardstock using the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder and a die-cutting machine. After it is embossed, trim it so that it is 3 ⅝” wide using a paper trimmer.

Step 5: Die cut a label (2 ⅜” x 3 ½”) from a scrap piece of Basic White cardstock using the Wild Rose dies and a die cutting machine.

Step 6: Rub an embossing powder tool over a scrap piece of Basic Black cardstock. Stamp the “happy” greeting and the “you make me” greeting onto the cardstock using Whisper White Craft ink. Sprinkle white embossing powder over the greetings. Tap off the excess embossing powder. Heat this with a heat tool until the embossing powder has melted.

Step 7: Fussy cut the “happy” greeting, leaving a narrow border, using paper snips. Trim the “you make me” greeting into a strip that is about ⅜” x 1 ⅝” using a paper trimmer.

Step 8: Stick the ⅞” x 5 ½” strip of patterned paper onto the left side of the card using double-sided adhesive.

Step 9: Stick the dry embossed panel onto the right side of the card using double-sided adhesive.

Step 10: Stick the two 3″ pieces of ribbon together at one end, off-setting the ribbon, using a glue dot. Trim the ends on an angle using paper snips.

Step 11: Lay the die-cut label onto the card, about ⅜” up from the bottom, for proper placement. Stick the ribbon onto the card, tucking it under the die-cut label, using glue dots.

Step 12: Stick the label onto the card using dimensional adhesive.

Step 13: Stick the pink butterfly onto the card using a combination of double-sided adhesive and dimensional adhesive.

Step 14: Stick the “happy” greeting onto the card using liquid glue.

Step 15: Stick the “you make me” greeting onto the card using liquid glue.

Step 16: Embellish the card using some sequins and rhinestones. You’re done!

  1. Hi, can you tell me how you get your 3D embossing folders to emboss using your die cutting machine? the top of the folder is so thick that it does not emboss my card stock. I have tried everything.

    1. Hi Mary, The 3D embossing folders can definitely be challenging. With Stampin’ Up!’s new die cutting machine there is an embossing plate that can be used with the main plate. So the sandwich is the base plate, the embossing folder and then the embossing folder. If you don’t have the new machine, you have to play with the plates you have to get the sandwich right. What machine are you using?

      1. Hi Andrea,
I followed you years age and was happy today to rediscover your blog. Love your work.
        Rev. Judy

    2. Hi Mary,

I just tried my Big Shot with the Multi-Purpose Platform and here’s the sandwich I used…

      Cutting Plate on top
3D embossing folder with paper inside
Multi-Purpose Platform on tab 2 on the bottom

This gave a nice 3D texture on my Whisper White cardstock.

      You could also try…

      Cutting Plate on top
3D embossing folder with paper inside
Multi-Purpose Platform on tab 1 on the bottom

This gave a bit deeper of a texture on my Whisper White cardstock.

  2. Hi Andrea, I really like this card. I couldn’t get the video to open though. What could I be doing wrong? Thanks, Karen
