In this tutorial I am going to show you how I created this card using products from Stampin' Up!'s Butterfly Brilliance Promotion.
Two butterfly cards created with products from Stampin' Up!'s Butterfly Bouquet Promotion

For as long as I’ve been creating cards and mixed media art pieces, I’ve been obsessed with butterflies.

And every time Stampin’ Up! releases a butterfly product, I pretty much have to have it LOL.

So when I saw Stampin’ Up!’s Butterfly Brilliance Collection promotion, I just knew I had to add it to my collection.

The Butterfly Brilliance Collection consists of the Butterfly Brilliance stamp set and coordinating Brilliant Wings dies along with the stunning Butterfly Bijou 6″ x 6″ designer series paper and the woodgrain specialty paper.

To see all the products included, check out the Butterfly Brilliance Collection flyer here.

Note that this promotion is available March 2 – May 3, 2021. While the stamp set and dies will be available in the 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue, the paper won’t. It’s available only while supplies last.

Let’s take a closer look at all the items available in this collection below.

Stampin’ Up! Canada | Butterfly Brilliance Stamp Set

The Butterfly Brilliance stamp set consists of a single stamp with 6 butterfly images.

You can use it as a background stamp, or stamp and die cut the butterflies and use them individually.

Stamp the line-art image and add color with your choice of coloring technique, or apply different colors of ink to the stamp before stamping to create a unique look.

Stampin’ Up! Canada |Brilliant Wings dies

As you can see, the Brilliant Wings Dies is a BIG die set, with LOTS of dies! The die on the left, which shows you just the outline of the dies, die cuts all the butterflies from the Butterfly Brilliance stamp set, all at once.

What I didn’t realize at the time I made this card is that particular die will ALSO die cut some of the butterflies from the patterned paper collection.

Stampin’ Up! Canada | Butterfly Bijou DSP

Of all the patterns in the Butterfly Bijou patterned paper collection my favorite is the one that has the large butterflies. And you can see a little sneak peek of it at the top left of the image.

It’s that specific pattern of paper that coordinates with the die I mentioned earlier. Of course, I didn’t realize that at the time I made my card LOL – so I cut out each the butterflies.

Now thankfully, I didn’t do it by hand. I recently purchased a Brother Scan n Cut – so that is what I used.

Stampin’ Up! Canada | Natural Touch DSP

The last item in the Butterfly Brilliance collection is the Natural Touch Specialty Paper you see here.

The pale woodgrain is versatile enough for any project and any time of year.

You can stamp on it, emboss it, and use it with dies.

You can also use large pieces of it as a background or cut out pieces to use as accents.

Stampin’ Up! Canada | Butterfly Birthday Card

As you can see from the picture above, I created two different versions of this month’s exclusive tutorial card.

The first one I created was the card that is predominantly blue. And the card I created for the video tutorial is the one on the left.

For both of these cards, the butterflies came from the Butterfly Bijou patterned paper collection. And the reason I ended up creating two different versions of the card is that I didn’t want to cut up two sheets of the patterned paper.  So after I used the green and the orange/yellow butterfly for the blue card, I decided to create my second card with the yellow and the Petal Pink butterfly.

So now let’s get into the details of the card…

Stampin’ Up! Canada | Butterfly Birthday Instructions

Step 1: Score the 4 ¼” x 11″ piece of Basic White Thick cardstock at 5 ½” and then fold it in half with your bone folder to create your card base.

Step 2: Cut out the large yellow butterfly and the small pink butterfly from the 6″ x 6″ piece of patterned paper using paper snips.

Step 3: Die cut a label (2 ⅜” x 4 ⅜”) from the 4″ x 6″ piece of Petal Pink cardstock, the 4″ x 6″ piece of Vellum cardstock and the 4″ x 6″ piece of patterned paper using the second largest die in the Stitched Nested Labels dies and a die cutting machine.

Step 4: Rub an embossing powder tool over the scrap piece of Basic Black cardstock. Stamp the “happy” greeting and the “birthday” greeting onto the cardstock using Whisper White Craft ink. Sprinkle white embossing powder over the greetings. Tap off the excess embossing powder. Heat this with a heat tool until the embossing powder has melted.

Step 5: Fussy cut around the “happy” greeting, leaving a narrow border, using paper snips.

Step 6: Trim the “birthday” greeting into a strip that is about ⅜” x 1 ⅛” using a paper trimmer.

Step 7: Stick the 1 ¾” x 4″ piece of patterned paper onto the bottom of the 4″ x 5 ¼” piece of Basic White cardstock using double-sided adhesive.

Step 8: Stick the vellum die-cut label onto the butterfly die-cut label, using some double-sided adhesive placed across the center of the label.

Step 9: Stick the layered die-cut label onto the Petal Pink die-cut label, off-setting it slightly, using double-sided adhesive.

Step 10: Stick the matted die-cut label onto the Basic White cardstock panel using double-sided adhesive.

Step 11: Stick the 6″ piece of Fine Art ⅜” ribbon across the Basic White cardstock panel using double-sided adhesive. Wrap the ends around to the back of the cardstock and stick them down using double-sided adhesive.

Step 12: Center and stick the Basic White cardstock panel onto the card base using double-sided adhesive.

Step 13: Stick the large yellow butterfly onto the card using double-sided adhesive. Stick the “happy” greeting onto the card using a combination of glue dots and liquid glue. Stick the small pink butterfly onto the card using double-sided adhesive. Stick the “birthday” greeting onto the card using Tear & Tape adhesive.

Step 14: Embellish the card using some clear rhinestones and sequins. You’re done!
