Before I dive into the cards I want to share with you today, let’s take a look at Stampin’ Up!’s Butterfly Gala stamp set.
Stampin’ Up! Butterfly Gala Stamp Set
I have always loved butterflies! So of course when I first saw the Stampin’ Up! Butterfly Gala stamp set, I knew I had to have it. One of the things I quickly grew to love about this set is the variety of images and their versatility.
As you can see there are two different stamp styles. The outline images – which come in four different designs – and the solid image stamps. The solid image stamps are designed to be able to quickly add color to the butterfly outlines, however, you don’t have to. If you prefer coloring the butterfly outlines yourself (as I did) you totally can.
The other thing I really love about this stamp set is the greeting stamps. But then I have always been a sucker for a sans-serif font paired with a script font. The greetings are perfect for thank you, hello, and thinking of you cards.
The stamp set also has a coordinating punch that you can purchase separately, called the Butterfly Duet punch. You can see it pictured below.
As you can see from the image, the reason this is called the Butterfly Duet punch is that with each “punch” you actually get two punched butterflies. A large one and a small one.
Using it is super easy. First, you stamp and add color to one of the Butterfly images.
One of the things you may not have noticed when looking at the stamp set picture above is that the butterfly images are two in one. So when you stamp one of the four butterfly designs, you are actually stamping both a large and a small butterfly outline.
To align my punch with the stamped images, I like to flip my punch upside down so that I can see my stamped images through the “window” of the punch.
So now that I’ve introduced you to the main products I used for my set of cards, let me give you a close up of each card.
Stampin’ Up! Butterfly Gala Card Ideas
Whenever I create card sets, I usually like to create them in a range of different “levels.” So beginner to intermediate/advanced. How I determine the difficulty level of the card, is based on how many steps are involved in creating the card. So the more steps, the more supplies/tools you need, the more advanced the difficulty level.
Now because all of these cards involve coloring with alcohol markers (Stampin’ Blends), I would probably class them as beginner/intermediate. Especially because getting beautiful blends and creating depth of shading with your markers does require some know-how.
Each of the cards below was created in the same way.
I stamped the flourish one or more times onto a 4″ x 5 1/4″ Whisper White cardstock panel. I then colored the flourish(es) with my Stampin’ Blends.
For all but card #3, I chose to nestle my stamped greeting close to the flourish.
For the butterflies, I stamped a whole bunch of butterfly images onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock. I chose the same stamp for all my butterflies (out of the four outline options) simply because it’s my favorite design of them all. The butterflies were all colored with my Stampin’ Blends, and then punched out using the Butterfly Duet punch.
To give my cards a little dimension, I popped the butterflies up using Stampin’ Dimensionals (dimensional foam).
