In this video tutorial I show you how to create this "Hey There Friend" card featuring the Stampin' Up! Autumn Greetings stamp set, a variety of dies, and a masking with ink blending technique.
Autumn Card with large floral image created using Stampin' Up!'s Autumn Greetings stamp set

Hey there friends, today I’m back with another card idea using Stampin’ Up!’s Autumn Greetings stamp set.

As with the last card, I am using a masking with ink blending technique. This time, I decided to go for more of a clean and simple/modern feel to my card. So instead of covering my entire panel with blended inks, I decided to create three narrow strips of color, leaving the rest of the image uncolored.

Here is a close up of the card.

As you can see, the three colors I chose for the ink strips – Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight – I carried over to the die cut letters. The only change I made was with the Daffodil Delight. Instead of using Daffodil Delight cardstock for the letter “y,” I opted for Crushed Curry CS. And that is because the Daffodil Delight CS was too light and bright for the overall feel of the card.

Stampin’ Up! Autumn Greetings| “Hey There Friend” Card Dimensions

Below you’ll find a list of the dimensions of the pieces for each card.

  • Whisper White Thick CS: a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece
  • Whisper White CS: a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece
  • Cajun Craze CS: a 3/4″ x 1″ piece and a 1 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece
  • Pumpkin Pie CS: a 3/4″ x 1″ piece
  • Crushed Curry CS: a 3/4″ x 1″ piece

Stampin’ Up! Autumn Greetings | “Hey There Friend” Card Step-by-Step Tutorial

Here is how I made this card:

Step 1: Fold the 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Whisper White Thick cardstock in half, with a bone folder, to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base.

Step 2: Stamp the large floral image onto a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Step 3: Position the third from the largest die from the Stitched Rectangles dies over the floral image, on an angle, so that there is a white area at the bottom left corner of the frame.  Hold the die in place using repositionable adhesive and run it through a die cutting machine.

Step 4: Place the die cut floral image on your grid paper in a landscape format with the white area at the top left.  Stick a piece of Stamping Mask paper about 3/4″ up from the bottom edge.  Stick a second piece of Stamping Mask paper about 1/4″ above the first piece.

Step 5: Apply ink to the unmasked area of the floral image using Cajun Craze ink and a sponge dauber.

Step 6: Remove the top piece of Masking Paper and move it up about 1/4″ and stick it back down. Remove the bottom piece of Masking Paper and move it up just under 1/4″ and stick it back down.  You want a very small bit of the Cajun Craze ink to be showing just above the bottom piece of Masking Paper.

Step 7: Apply ink to the unmasked area of the floral image using Pumpkin Pie ink and a sponge dauber.

Step 8: Remove the top piece of Masking Paper and move it up about 1/4″ and stick it back down. Remove the bottom piece of Masking Paper and move it up just under 1/4″ and stick it back down. You want a very small bit of the Pumpkin Pie ink to be showing just above the bottom piece of Masking Paper.

Step 9: Apply ink to the unmasked area of the floral image using Daffodil Delight ink and a sponge dauber.

Step 10: Place some foam adhesive on the back of the 3/4″ x 1″ piece of Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry cardstock pieces.  Die cut the letter H from the Cajun Craze cardstock, the E from the Pumpkin Pie cardstock and the Y from the Crushed Curry cardstock.

Step 11: Stamp the “hello there friend” greeting onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Fussy cut the “there friend” portion of the greeting, leaving a narrow border, using paper snips.

Step 12: Place the border die along the right side of the 1 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Cajun Craze cardstock.  Hold the die in place using repositionable adhesive and run it through a die cutting machine.

Step 13: Stick the die cut border to the back of the left side of the floral panel, using double sided adhesive.

Step 14: Stick the H, E and Y letters that you die cut to the floral panel. Stick the “there friend” greeting onto the floral panel, just below the die cut letters, using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Step 15: Center and stick the floral panel onto the card base, using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Step 16: Embellish the card with some Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels.  You’re done!

There you have it friends! I hope you enjoyed today’s video tutorial.
